Salar de Uyuni
Salt flat of Uyuni
Salt flat of Uyuni is, with their 12.000 km², the biggest desert of salt of the world". It is located about 3.650 meters high in Potosí  department, in the Highland of Bolivia, on the Andean mountain range . The area that today occupies this desert, was covered 40.000 years ago for the Ballivián lake. Salt flat of Coipasa and the lakes Poopó and Uru Uru is also vestiges of this great prehistoric lake. The area of Salt flat of Uyuni is approximately 25 times more than Planices of Salt of Bonneville (Bonneville Salt Flats) in the United States and it contains a reservation of 9 million tons of litio and other mineral. Driving among this lake of salt is mainly an extraordinary experience during the winter when the intense blue of the sky contrasts with the brilliant target of the scab of salt. When the time is cloudy the effect takes place “white - out”, where the horizon is stumped until disappearing, transforming into an almost impossible task differentiating the earth of the sky.
Among this spectacular landscape figures poliédricas can be appreciated formed by the eolic force of the wind. The visitors are amazed by these strong contrasts that they open up before their eyes which work of art in which mix the glistening target of the desert, the intense blue of the sky, the rural brown lilac of the mountains that you/they surround it and the islands that are among this whole panorama. Salt flat of Uyuni is since one of the main tourist destinations of Bolivia, it is visited approximately by 60.000 tourists every year.
